These terms govern your use of this website and the free solar quote process operated by Crusader Energy. By using this site, completing our quiz, or booking a quote call, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
These terms cover the quote stage only. If you decide to go ahead with an installation, that will be governed by a separate installation contract we'll provide before any work begins.

1. About these terms
These are the terms of service for the Crusader Energy solar quote process, accessed via this website and our advertising on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. They form a legal agreement between you and Crusader Energy. You should read them in full before using the service.
We may update these terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page shows when it was most recently changed. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

3. Eligibility
To use the free quote service you must:
- Be aged 18 or over
- Be a homeowner (or the legally authorised representative of one)
- Own a property located within 15 km of our Benton, Newcastle office (broadly covering the NE1, NE2, NE3, NE6, NE7, NE8, NE9, NE12, NE23, NE25, NE26, NE27, NE28, NE29, NE30, NE37 and NE38 postcode areas; we'll confirm eligibility on the call)
- Have legal authority to commission electrical and renewable installations at the property
- Provide accurate information when completing the quiz and on the call
We reserve the right to decline a quote or installation if any of the above isn't met, if the roof isn't suitable, or if the property type falls outside our normal scope (for example listed buildings or commercial-only premises).
4. The free quote process
The process is three steps:
- 60-second quiz — you tell us about your property, your bills, and how you use your home, via the form on our website.
- 15-minute quote call — we work the numbers using satellite roof analysis, your shared bill data, and our installation experience. We then call you at the time you booked to walk through your tailored quote.
- Site visit (optional) — if the quote makes sense and you want to proceed, we arrange a short site visit to confirm specifications before installation. There's no obligation to book a site visit, and no obligation to proceed after one.
5. Nature of the quote
The quote we deliver on the call is a realistic estimate based on the information you give us, publicly available data about your property, and current market prices. It is:
- Indicative, not binding until you sign an installation contract
- Subject to confirmation on a site visit, after which we may revise the quote (up or down) based on what we find
- Time-limited — pricing typically holds for 30 days, after which we may need to re-quote due to changes in panel, battery or labour costs
- Subject to DNO approval — your local Distribution Network Operator (typically Northern Powergrid) must approve the connection of any system over 3.68 kW before install
6. Booking, cancelling & no-shows
Booking a quote call is free and creates no contractual obligation to buy anything. If you can't make your booked slot, please cancel or reschedule using the link in your confirmation email, or call us on 0191 6077272.
If you miss a booked call without notice, we'll attempt to reach you once by phone and once by email. If we don't hear back within 7 days we'll assume you're no longer interested and remove your booking from our calendar.
7. If you proceed to install
Once you decide to proceed, we'll send you a written installation contract. This contract will set out:
- The exact specification of your system (panels, inverter, battery, monitoring)
- The final agreed price
- The installation timeline and any conditions
- Payment terms (deposit, staged payments, balance on commissioning)
- Warranty terms in full
- Your statutory cancellation rights (see section 11)
No installation contract is formed until you sign and return that document. These terms (the ones you're reading now) govern the quote stage; the installation contract governs the installation itself.
8. Site visit
If we agree on a site visit, an engineer (typically Jonny or another member of the Crusader team) will visit your property at a mutually agreed time to:
- Confirm the roof structure, orientation, pitch and shading
- Inspect your loft, fuse board, and electricity meter
- Take measurements and photographs (with your permission) for the install plan
- Confirm or revise the indicative quote based on what we find
The visit typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. There's no charge and no obligation to proceed afterwards.
9. Pricing & changes
Solar installations on residential properties are currently zero-rated for VAT under HMRC rules valid to March 2027, so VAT does not apply to the installation itself, subject to any government policy changes.
We reserve the right to update pricing if:
- The site visit reveals a materially different scope of work
- Component prices change between quote and contract signing
- The DNO requires additional equipment or modifications
- Scaffolding, structural work, or roof repairs are needed that weren't apparent at quote stage
Any price change will be communicated to you in writing before we proceed, and you'll have the right to walk away at no cost if you don't accept it.
10. Payment
If you choose to proceed with installation, payment is staged. Typical terms are:
- 10 % deposit on contract signing (refundable during the 14-day cooling-off period — see below)
- 40 % on materials ordering
- 50 % balance on commissioning & handover
Final terms will be set out in your installation contract. We accept bank transfer (BACS) and major debit/credit cards. If you arrange finance through one of our finance partners, payment terms will be set by them.
11. Cancellation & cooling-off rights
If you've expressly asked us to begin installation work during the cooling-off period and then cancel, you may be liable for the proportional cost of any work already completed.
12. Warranties
If you become an installation customer, the following warranties apply, subject to the full terms set out in your installation contract:
- Solar panels: 25-year product and performance warranty from the manufacturer
- Inverter: 10 to 12-year manufacturer warranty, depending on brand
- Battery storage: typically 10-year manufacturer warranty
- Workmanship: Crusader Energy 2-year workmanship guarantee covering install quality
- MCS Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG): protects your warranty if we cease trading (provided through our MCS certification body)
Warranty claims should be raised in the first instance with us at info@crusaderenergy.co.uk. We'll handle the manufacturer liaison on your behalf where possible.
13. Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
The Smart Export Guarantee is a UK government scheme that pays you for excess solar electricity you export to the grid. We'll handle the SEG registration on your behalf as part of the installation, but you must hold an account with a SEG-licenced supplier (e.g. Octopus Energy, EDF, OVO) to receive payments. The export tariff is set by your chosen supplier, not by us.
14. MCS & NICEIC certification
All installations we carry out are MCS-certified and conform to current UK electrical regulations (BS 7671 / 18th Edition). We are NICEIC-registered (registration 971930). On completion you'll receive:
- MCS installation certificate
- Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC)
- DNO commissioning paperwork
- System handover pack with user manuals and warranty documents
15. Marketing communications
When you submit the quiz we'll contact you about your quote (this is necessary to provide the service you've asked for). If you tick the marketing consent box, we may also send you occasional emails or texts about solar offers, government scheme updates, or referral incentives. You can withdraw consent at any time via the unsubscribe link in any message, or by emailing info@crusaderenergy.co.uk.
We never share your contact details with third parties for their own marketing.
16. Disclaimers
- Quoted figures are not financial advice. If you're considering finance, please seek independent advice.
- Energy prices and export tariffs change. Past performance of any system isn't a guarantee of future returns.
- The "86 % bill reduction" figure used in our advertising is a maximum achievable under ideal conditions (south-facing roof, 4–6 kW system, battery, smart tariff like Octopus Go). Most homes save in the 60–80 % range.
- We don't warrant that this website will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may suspend or change the website at any time without notice.
17. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under UK law
Subject to that, our total liability to you for any loss arising under or in connection with the quote stage (i.e. before you sign an installation contract) is limited to £100. Liability under any installation contract will be set out in that contract.
We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses (e.g. lost profits, lost savings, lost opportunity) arising from the quote service.
18. Force majeure
We're not liable for delays or failure to perform caused by events outside our reasonable control, including: severe weather, pandemics, strikes, war, sabotage, terrorism, supply chain disruption, DNO delays, government action, or failure of utilities or telecommunications.
19. Intellectual property
All content on this website — including text, images, logos, videos, and design — is owned by or licensed to Crusader Energy or its content suppliers. You may view and print pages for your own personal use, but you may not reproduce, modify, or redistribute any content without our prior written consent. 20. Governing law & jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. As a consumer, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in your country of residence if it's elsewhere in the UK.
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
